4-28-09 - Slept decent

Last night I got in bed and read.  I am still battling a stuffy nose/cough so I took some NyQuil.  I read for a while and then turned out the lights.  It took me a good while to fall asleep, even with the NyQuil.  I was feeling a bit frustrated, but eventually dozed off.

I woke up later around 7:55am, probably to the sun coming through the shades.  I left a small fan in the window with the window open an inch or two, and it kept the room cool since it has been hot outside the last day or two.

Once the morning came I was up, but decided to stay in bed till later since I am still fighting off this cold.  Hoping to have the cold knocked out so I can get back to my routine and get up on an earlier note.

Earlier in the night I had a tea, but it wasn’t chamomile but was supposedly decafinated.

4-27-09 - A little Cold, and NyQuil

Last night I ate late so I wasn’t tired, and I had a cold so I was waiting till later in the night so I could take some NyQuil and pass out.  I took the NyQuil and read till I was drowsy.

The NyQuil never fails, I was alseep after a bit and I stayed asleep for a good 4.5 hours or so.  After that I was up but was able to doze out a few times while I laid in bed.  I have a cold/cough so I let myself sleep in later today so I could be rested, and hope to kick this cold to the curb soon.  Hoping the “Swine Flu” passed me by this time.

Last night I didn’t work so I started relaxing and hopped in bed to read.  I turned out the lights and passed out.  It never fails that I was awake at 4:30am for a reason unknown.  I eventually got back to sleep but I didn’t get very rested sleep.  I hopped out of bed around 7:00am and closed one of the Black out shades I had opened because too much light was coming in.

I woke up on the alarm, and reset it for a little more sleep since I am feeling a bit under the weather this morning with allergies or something (Stuffy nose).

Hope to break this waking up every morning after 3 or 4 hours of sleep and start getting more rested sleep.

4-23-09 - Slept but woke up early too

Last night I came home later and didn’t want to get my brain working so I decided to shut down the computers around 11:45pm, and hop in bed to read.  I read till about 12:50pm and decided to crash, and was actually feeling tired. I fell asleep in a decent amount of time, but was wide awake at 4:15am.  Got up and got a drink, but I was wide awake and laid awake till at least 5:30am. I eventually dozed off a bit and my alarm first went off at 7:55am, but I snoozed and then reset it to 9:00am.  I got out of bed after laying there feeling beat down tired.  Once I was up I feel good, so I think I need to practice just getting out of bed no matter how much or little sleep I get, and start the day.  I can always decide to sleep more on a planned day if I need it, so start pushing the limits and get up regardless!

4-21-09 - 4 hours and then was awake

Last night I turned the computers out by about midnight, and then hopped in bed and read.  I was not feeling overly tired, but I managed to fall asleep in decent time once the lights went out.  I drank a chamomile tea around 9:45pm tonight, and I went to the gym earlier around 7:30pm.

I woke up at 4:30am to the cat scratching the door. I got up and fed him.  I then got in bed but was wide awake. I ended up turning on the tv, and then surfing the web on my phone to pass some time.  By 5:00am I tried to sleep again but laid there till at least 6:00am totally awake. I then dozed in and out of sleep till the alarm, and then snoozed a few times, then turned it off.   I was in and out and having vivid dreams.  I got out of bed after 10:15am feeling really tired, and had a crappy night of sleep.

4-20-09 - Tired Monday Morning

A typical sunday night where I didn’t feel overly tired, but I hopped in bed and read a bit and eventually felt tired enough to fall asleep.  I fell asleep without too much trouble, but was then wide awake around 4:50am.  Not sure why, but I was up.  I then was in a daze where I almost felt like I was awake while being half asleep and dreaming.  It is actually a very annoying feeling because I need rest and want it, but this daze feeling doesn’t get good rest in.

I then got up at the alarm, but felt like I needed to get more sleep to feel rested so I snoozed, and then changed the alarm to a later time. Planning on trying to not do that the rest of the week!

I don’t know what it is, I think my mind is just so stressed out with work and personal life that my brain is on overdrive and just crunching away.  I need to brush up and practice meditation and then breahting techniques at night to get my mind into a relaxation mode.

Tonight I will be turning my computer off before 11:45pm so I can get some quality relaxation time in to get my mind off of things and hope for a restful night. I will be using breathing techniques and affirmations to try for the best.  Tomorrow i’ll let you know if it worked.

Last night I had a bad night of sleep.  I managed to fall asleep quickly, but I woke up around 2:55am because I was hot so I pulled the covers off.  I then had a really hard time falling asleep. I don’t know what it was, maybe my brain was racing? I don’t know, but I do know it was a long night of trying to sleep without much of it.

I remember feeling wide awake at times, and then feeling really tired and wishing I could sleep.  I stayed i n bed a little extra in the morning hoping I would actually go into a deep sleep, but I stayed conscious and I rested, but didn’t sleep.

I need to get back to my breathing and relaxation techniques, and possibly stop reading in bed for a while so my brain relates the bed to sleep.

4-16-09 - Fell asleep but woke up early

Last night I wasn’t overly tired but I hopped in bed and after a while got tired.  Once the lights went out I fell asleep quickly.  I decided to set my alarm a little later today, but now I realize I shouldn’t have.

I was up again around 5:00am but am not sure why.  From then on I was in a daze and was having some wacky dreams.  I ended up oversleeping and got out of bed around 9:35am.  I need to stick to the earlier time, and might need to try to go to sleep by 12:30am if that is possible to help get more sleep?

I need to really get back to my relaxation breathing and thought strategies to help me block out thoughts and keep my brain at ease. Also, I should calculate out exactly 6 or 7 hours of sleep and get up at that time and see how I feel to see which is more optimal for my body.

4-15-09 - Fell alseep quick and was tired

Last night I was tired. I worked a long day and night at the office so by the time I got home I didn’t do any work.  Instead I went online and surfed a little personally, without work involved or on the brain.  By around 11:45 I was feeling a little tired so I decided to turn down the computers and start relaxing.

I wrote some notes and by 12:40 I was tired so I hit the lights.  Within about 15 minutes I was sound alseep.  I told myself the affirmation that I was going to get a relaxing night of sleep.

I woke up around 5:45am, not sure why but I was wide awake. I managed to doze off a little more in the following hours leading up till my alarm.  Once the alarm went off I was lazy so I snoozed a bunch, and then changed the alarm to 9:00am.  I got up at the alarm and felt great, and started my day.

Overall, I woke up and was in and out of sleep after 5:45am, but it was still a pretty restful night.

4-14-09 - Sleep Affirmations work!

Last night was a great night of sleep.  I hopped in bed around 12:15 and did some writing, instead of reading on a recipe I had in mind.  By 12:40 I felt really tired and forced myself to stay awake until 12:45 and then I turned out the lights.

I would say it took about 10 minutes and I was out cold for the night.  In the last few minutes of consciousness I told myself the affirmation “I am going to get restful sleep and wake up feeling refreshed”, and it helped.

Once morning came I dragged a little bit, but that is natural for me.  I snoozed, and then set the alarm till later and tried to sleep a little more.  Didn’t really work, but it felt good to lay there a bit. I got up, felt rested and great, and am going to hope to keep up the sleep before 1:00am routine.
